Memorial Day on My Mind

Kathleen Metrick

It's safe to say that Memorial Day weekend 2020 will be different from past celebrations & will kickoff an uncertain summer. Though new twists on favorite traditions can put the holiday right back in the weekend! Here are some possibilities:

Before jumping into event planning, take a quick refresher on the history of Memorial Day or head on over to Story Corps Military Voices Initiative & listen to the featured audios there. Take a virtual tour of US Veterans and War Memorials.

Visit this gallery & this list for lots of family friendly holiday activities, DIY decoration ideas, donation suggestions, & ways to volunteer. Find out what's happening virtually around Philadelphia over the weekend including events at Museum of the American Revolution & Battleship NJ. Tune into National Memorial Day Concert on Sunday evening May 24th 8:00 PM on PBS.

Planning a backyard barbecue or family picnic this Memorial Day? You'll find lots of menu inspiration in this list of 35 summery recipes (pass the loaded quacamole please). And don't forget the firecracker hotdogs & homemade popsicles (with DIY molds).

Taking in a movie at the theater will have to wait for now ~ though in a case of everything old is new again ~ the drive-in may be a hot ticket this summer. Read more about Delsea Drive-In's re-opening this weekend & about the appearance of NJ pop-up drive-ins. Break out the popcorn!
